There’s something deliciously odd about listening to a summer jam in the middle of winter, but seeing as California never gets grim and grey for too long, Onsen’s latest track comes right on time. “The March” is co-produced by LA’s own Brook D’Leau, one-half of Noir&B duo J*Davey and Miguel collaborator, and smacks of the heavy-handed strumming you’ll find in ’80s masterworks from groups like the Psychedelic Furs. A jack of all trades, Onsen recorded all the parts for the track, and says this about its origin:
“‘The March’ is a teen summer love anthem written from the perspective of the fall. It looks back with tenderness on both an ex-love and a younger more innocent self. With driving guitars and rich synths, it’s a cathartic send off to a someone that needs letting go…while admitting that part of you is still chained to the idea of them coming back.”
“The March” follows Onsen’s first single from 2019, “Charming Nights,” which made it on to Sia’s ‘Ear Candy” Spotify playlist when it was released. (The playlist has nearly 80,000 followers.) Click here to listen to “The March” by Onsen.
